Ink Out Cancer!

Thank you to Krystal Wilkinson, Kim Whitfield, Steve & Jessica Hagen and Deb Bieri for donating ink cartridges to the INK OUT CANCER project! To date, we have accumulated $82.00 towards our goal!! We are accumulating funds for this project for the NC Jaycee Outpatient Treatment Center at the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center. This project is one of the NC Jaycees (www.ncjaycees.com) state priority projects and we are thrilled to be able to support it with this ongoing endeavor! We have heard that chapters from across the state are now collecting empty ink cartridges and will be delivering them to us at our regional meeting, state convention, and other events so we can submit them for reimbursment! What a great example of Jaycee spirit! Our goal is to raise at least $550 for the Center - help us reach it! Please collect used ink & toner cartridges from printers and contact Kathy Cox (chairman@ greenvillejaycees.com) to have have them picked up or bring them to any Jaycee event - especially membership meetings! We will be accumulating our total until December 1st and will announce our results at the 1st membership meeting in December!

Another Successful Flat Out 5K!

The Greenville Jaycees presented the annual Flat Out 5k and Fun Run on Saturday July 1st. This year's race was a big success raising in excess of $3000 that will be split between the three charities that the race supports. They are the NC Jaycee Burn Center, the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center, and the Family Violence Program of Pitt County.

Many thanks to the volunteers that came out the day of the race to hand out water, cold towels, set up the race course and food, and work the finish line and registration tables. The race requires so many things to happen at the same time on race morning and everyone's flexibility and helpfulness is very much appreciated. And getting to race morning is a whole 'nother story. There is a whole list of people that coordinated and helped with activities in the weeks and months before the race. This included raising money, ordering T's and trophies, getting logos, stuffing bags, getting stuff to put in bags, hauling things to the race, designing t-shirts, and getting permits.

We hope to continue the tradition of the Flat Out 5k, all comments and suggestions for next year are welcome.
