Get updates and event reminders on your cell phone
Did you know you can get updates and event reminders from the Greenville Jaycees on your cell phone via SMS (text messages)?
Here's how...
I'm sure by now you've heard of Twitter but you may not know what it is or how it works. Twitter is a simple social networking site that let's people update their followers by typing a short statement (a tweet) of 140 characters or less. Followers can choose to have those tweets sent to their cell phones as a text message. You can follow the Greenville Jaycees on our Twitter account where we will keep you up to date on upcoming events. Since some people have a limited number of text messages or are charged per message we will keep our tweets to a minimum. This way you'll be sure to get only the important information and not get flooded with random messages. We'll save that for the Yahoo! Group.
Sign me up!
If you don't already have a Twitter account you'll need to get one at www.twitter.com.
Once you've signed up you'll need to visit your settings page and click on the Devices tab. Fill out the information with your cell phone number as shown below.
Visit the Greenville Jaycees Twitter page and click the "Follow" button.
Click the "Device updates OFF" text to open your options box.
Click the "On" radio button to receive tweets. If you don't see this option you may have Twitter set to not send messages to your phone. To activate the messages text the word "on" to 40404. Refresh the page and your options should appear.
That's it!
