- ACS - Active Chapter Size. Average membership of all chapters within a given population division.
- ACTIVE STATUS PROGRAMS - Those national programs and projects designated by The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce Executive Board of Directors for development and promotion.
- AMBASSADOR -The highest honor conferred by The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. This most distinguished form of recognition for outstanding past and present Jaycees can be bestowed at the state or chapter level upon application and approval. The prestigious Ambassadorship signifies an individual's exceptional contribution to the Junior Chamber movement in the United States.
- ANNIVERSARY DUES - A dues collection system whereby a local member's annual dues to The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce is due during each anniversary month of membership. The U.S. Junior Chamber collects these dues through chapters.
- ANNUAL MEETING - The meeting held in June each year to conduct business of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce. It is at this meeting that the president and 10 vice presidents are elected. Each chapter may send delegates to the Annual Meeting, also known as the national convention.
- ARCHIVES - The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce Archives is being developed at the national headquarters in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to preserve, record and exhibit the rich heritage and achievements of The U.S. Junior Chamber. The Archives also symbolizes the future growth and continuing contributions made by the organization. This effort is being funded through the annual support program of The U.S. Jaycees Foundation by contributions from alumni groups such as The Crew and The U.S. JCI Senate, as well as Junior Chamber chapters, state organizations and individual contributions.

- BLUE CHIP - A planning, evaluation and reporting process utilizing member and community input; designed to help chapters develop members and impact the community.
- BOSSES' NIGHT - An event honoring employers of Jaycees as thanks for their contributions to the Junior Chamber.

- CALLING TREE - A system whereby chapter leaders call a specific number of members to update and activate them.
- CHAIRMAN - The individual charged with the responsibility for the completion of a project The chairman heads a committee and provides motivation for its members.
- CHAPTER MANAGEMENT - The effective, efficient and proper use of resources to accomplish a pre-determined objective.
- CHARTER - A document indicating an organization's affiliation with The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce or Junior Chamber International.
- COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS - The programs of a chapter through which an individual member is given the opportunity of applying learned leadership and management skills in fulfilling chosen social responsibility.
- CONSTITUTION - Rules and regulations an organization employs to determine its government and procedures.

- DSA - Distinguished Service Award. An award presented to a young person of Junior Chamber age for outstanding community service.
- DEGREES OF JAYCEES - A program designed to help individual members receive the benefits of their membership; a Junior Chamber career path outline. The program consists of three phases divided into 10 degrees.
- DISTRICT - A group of chapters, usually three to six, located within a geographic area of a state Junior Chamber organization.
- DISTRICT DIRECTOR - A state officer who works directly with chapter presidents of a particular district.

- EXECUTIVE BOARD OF DIRECTORS - The governing body of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, made up of the presidents of each state organization and all voting members of the executive committee plus the executive vice president, charged with the conduct of the organization's business in accordance with its constitution and bylaws.
- EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE - The national officers of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, consisting of the president, executive vice president, 10 vice presidents, chairman of the board, chaplain, legal counsel and treasurer.
- EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT - This appointed officer of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce is in charge of The U.S. Junior Chamber national service center operations. A state executive vice president is often an employee of a state organization and is a full-time manager for the state executive board of directors.
- EXHAUSTED ROOSTER - An affectionate title bestowed on a Jaycee upon reaching the age of 40, the age of Jaycee retirement
- EXTENSION - The organization of a new Junior Chamber chapter.

- HAFL - Healthy American Fitness Leaders. A Junior Chamber recognition program for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of physical fitness.
- HONORARY MEMBER - Membership conferred upon an individual whose contribution to the organization has been so outstanding as to merit this honor.

- INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS - The self-improvement programs of a chapter, aimed at teaching, developing and increasing the individual member's personal and leadership skills.
- INSTITUTIONAL CHAPTER - A Junior Chamber chapter that exists within a confining, rehabilitative or job training facility.

- JCI - Junior Chamber International, the worldwide Junior Chamber organization operating in more than 100 countries and territories.
- JCI HEADQUARTERS - Located in Coral Gables, Florida, and headed by a salaried secretary-general, serves the world organization.
- JCI SENATOR - The highest honor bestowed by JCI upon a current or past member for his or her contributions to the Junior Chamber. A JCI Senator is a life member of JCI.
- JCI WORLD CONGRESS - The Annual Meeting of Junior Chamber International held each year in November. Delegates from member nations conduct the organization's business.
- JOTS - Junior Chamber Officer Training School is held in conjunction with the Annual Meeting of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce.
- JAYCEE CREED - A statement of philosophy and beliefs adopted by The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce and JCI. The Creed was written by the late C. William Brownfield of Columbus, Ohio, in 1946. Brownfield later served as a national vice president.
- JAYCEE FAMILY WEEK - Thanksgiving week is recognized annually by Junior Chamber members as a time to emphasize the importance of the family unit. Chapters use this week to recognize outstanding families, encourage communication in the home and involve their families in chapter activities.
- JAYCEES MAGAZINE - The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce publication sent to all members.
- JUNIOR CHAMBER FOUNDERS' HOME - The home occupied by the president of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce in Tulsa, Oklahoma, during his or her term of office.
- JUNIOR CHAMBER SHIELD - The emblem of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce.
- JUNIOR CHAMBER WEEK/JAYCEE WEEK - Beginning the third Sunday in January, the week marking the anniversary of the founding of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1920. Chapters use this week to tell their communities of their accomplishments. Often a banquet is held during Junior Chamber Week/Jaycee Week to honor recipients of the Distinguished Service Award and employers of Jaycees.

- LOM - Local Organization Member. A local organization (chapter) affiliated with The U.S. Junior Chamber and JCI.
- LOTS - Local Officers Training School. A training service offered by your state organization.
- LEADERSHIP ACADEMY - A chapter project designed to put experienced members' skills to work by guiding, training and encouraging new members through their first year of membership, and to provide new members with the knowledge of the Junior Chamber.
- LEADERSHIP TRAINING - A process by which the individual develops greater self-confidence, motivation, self-expression and other traits of leadership.
- LEGAL COUNSEL - An officer who is legal adviser to an organization.
- LIBRARY STATUS PROGRAMS - Programs and projects which are not actively promoted by The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, but for which information is available to chapters through the Products Department.
- LOCAL PRESIDENTS SCHOOL - A seminar for the training of chapter presidents, usually sponsored by the state organization.

- METRO - The name given Junior Chamber chapters in population divisions VII and VIII, and all chapters with over 150 members.

- NOM - National Organization Member. A member nation of Junior Chamber International.
- NATIONAL STAFF OFFICER - A paid employee of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, with responsibility for a designated program area and headquarters functions. Staff officers frequently travel to state meetings, prepare informational and training materials and promote involvement in the Junior Chamber.
- NEWSLETTER - A publication of the chapter used to keep its members informed of Junior Chamber news and meeting information.

- OYF - Outstanding Young Farmer. A Junior Chamber recognition program for farmers.
- ON-TO - A slogan used in promoting attendance at a Junior Chamber meeting. Usually used in connection with a statewide meeting or The U.S. Junior Chamber Annual Meeting.
- ORIENTATION - The ongoing function of educating members about the Junior Chamber organization, its benefits and member opportunities.

- PARADE OF EXCELLENCE (POE) - Competition among chapters within a state, in which points are earned and an overall chapter ranking is established.
- PARLIAMENTARIAN - A person who advises a chairman or presiding officer about matters relating to parliamentary procedure.
- PINNACLE AWARDS - Encompasses the activities of a successful state based on past experience. Presented by state based on 13 areas of involvement.
- PLAN OF ACTION - The Junior Chamber chapter's goals and plans for achievement developed each year by officers and members.
- POLICY - Rules of practice and procedure which supplement the constitution and bylaws.
- PRESIDENTIAL AWARDS - Membership recruitment awards for members.
- PUBLIC RELATIONS - The acts of communicating what you are to the public. This is not to be confused with publicity, which is just one of the methods used in communicating the image.

- REGION - A group of districts, located within a geographic area of a state Junior Chamber organization.
- REGIONAL DIRECTOR - A state officer who acts as an administrator of district directors.
- REGULAR MEMBER - A young person, age 21 through 39, whose dues are paid. A Jaycee.
- RESOURCES - The material, money and, most importantly, the time and talent of people available to a Junior Chamber chapter.
- RETENTION - Renewing of an individual's membership for another year.
- ROBERT'S RULES OF ORDER (Revised) - A guidebook of parliamentary procedure written by General Henry A. Robert (U.S. Army) in 1874. These rules provide for the protection of the rights of the majority, the rights of the minority, the rights of individuals and the rights of those absent, in the conduct of meetings.

- SPEAK-UP - An individual development program to offer all Jaycees an opportunity to develop their verbal communication abilities.
- SPONSORSHIPS - Financial, material or physical support of Junior Chamber programs by an outside individual, group or firm.
- SPRINGBOARD - An individual activation program to aid chapters in involving new members in chapter activities. A Springboard certificate is available for presentation to those members meeting the defined criteria.
- STATE MEETING - A meeting conducted by a state officer in accordance with the bylaws of a state organization. Statewide meetings are held on a quarterly basis in many states.
- STATE DIRECTOR - A liaison between the state and local organization; a voting member of the board of directors of a state Junior Chamber organization.

- TOYA - Ten Outstanding Young Americans. Each year during the week immediately prior to Junior Chamber/Jaycee Week, The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce honors 10 dynamic young Americans at an awards congress.

- WAR MEMORIAL HEADQUARTERS - The home office building of The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce in Tulsa, Oklahoma. A staff of more than 50 conducts the business of the organization.

- YOUNG MEN CAN CHANGE THE WORLD - The title of a book about the Junior Chamber movement. Author Booton Herndon relates the history of the organization and tells of success and personal achievement gained through membership in the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
