North Carolina Jaycee Priority Projects
The five projects below are designated by the North Carolina Jaycees as state-wide projects contributed to by all of the North Carolina Jaycee chapters including the Greenville Jaycees. Each year, these five projects are the focus of many Jaycee chapters' work, while other chapters, like the Greenville Jaycees, balance their community service between these five priority projects and other, more local, endeavors.
Boys & Girls Home at Lake Waccamaw
Each year, the Greenville Jaycees raise money to contribute to the Jaycee Cottage at the Boys & Girls Home located in Lake Waccamaw, NC. This cottage houses 8-15 teenage boys who have been removed from their families for many reasons including poverty, death of their parents, or domestic violence. These young men may reside at the cottage for a short while during the time their family receives support or they may reside at the cottage until they turn 18 and enter the workforce or college.
There are over 100 children in residence at this home and each cottage is supervised by "house parents." These married couples help give the boys support and guidance.
All of the chapters of Jaycees in North Carolina contribute financially to assist this boys' cottage all year long. Donations may be in the form of donations such as sports equipment, school supplies, or other recreational equipment like computer software or music CDs. In addition, the North Carolina Jaycees, including the Greenville Jaycees, donate over $30,000 to help the house pay for essentials including utilities, bedding, and kitchen supplies.
North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center
The Jaycees in North Carolina, including the Greenville Jaycees, contribute financially to assist the maintenance of a burn center. Burn victims from all over North Carolina are sent to this center for care and rehabilitation. Each year, the Greenville Jaycees hold the Flat Out 5K and Fun Run to raise money for this burn center.
Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center
The NC Jaycee Outpatient Treatment Center
Each year, more than 6,000 cancer patients come to Duke for the treatment of cancer. Drawn by the Cancer Center's national and international reputation, nearly one-fourth of these patients come from outside of North Carolina. In addition, cancer patients make more than 85,000 visits per year to our outpatient clinics for treatment or follow-up care.
The North Carolina Jaycees have been a partner with the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center since 1987 and have contributed over $1,000,000 to aid the Cancer Center in making "life easier" for patients and families alike.
